Indian Premier League is all about making money and maximising revenue for the franchise owners. From this perspective Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni has already emerged as the winners as it is the team, which has got the maximum number of sponsors. It has been learnt that there are 14 different kinds of advertisers who have associated themselves with the CSK.
This should indeed warm the cockles of the owners of CSK as they have emerged as the team having maximum number of backing from the advertisers. So far 14 sponsors have opened their vaults to advertise about their products on the T-shirts and the lowers that the players are adorning on the ground.
The biggest advertiser is the Aircel, which is in fact the Chief Sponsor for the team and it has been followed by brands like Cloud 9, Reebok and 7Up. Health companies are also associated with the CSK and it has been found that there is a relatively unknown local ayurveda company, Nivaran 90 that has shelled out almost Rs 5 crores to make it to the CSK T-shirt. Peter England the shirt maker owned by the Aditya Birla Group is another sponsor that is vying for the space on the CSK T-shirts.
In the inaugural season of the IPL, the players of CSK had set the ramp on fire when Peter England had organized a fashion show in which the players of CSK had modeled for various products made by Peter England.
Among other brands that the franchisee of CSK has got for its players include, Band Aid, Nivea for men, Lays, Orbit and Boomer. The association is not relegated to the products category, but even media partners have aligned their fortune with the IPL and the sponsors for CSK include Star Vijay and radio station Hello 106 FM.
Big Bazaar of the Pantaloon Group is another advertiser associated with the CSK and this could be owing to the fact that the captain of CSK, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a brand ambassador for the group; therefore the company may have decided to align their fortune with the Chennai Super Kings.
With such an array of advertisers associating with CSK, the franchisees would hope to break even this year around. It would also depend upon the fortunes of the CSK as it progresses in the tournament, but those players who are associated with the CSK would indeed be one of the blessed lot as they would get quite a lot of money from the sponsors as well.
